I enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning, but I'm also keen to continually develop skills that will help me be more effective at work. MOOCs (massively open online courses) have added an element of structure to learning outside of the traditional classroom, and I've taken advantage of the targeted curricula to fill gaps in areas where I was previously self-taught as well as to serve as a refresher on topics. Creative solutions to challenging problems seem to flow more freely when I take a break to get outside and get the body moving and the blood flowing. A good hard trail run or a quick rip on the mountain bike does wonders for the head and the heart. When I have a little more time to spare, I enjoy traveling by any means but especially on foot or by bike, which allow a pace suitable for soaking in the scenery, seeing the wildlife, and experiencing the true culture of a place.
